There are many PC cleaning apps out there that you can try with some working better than others and some of them actually causing more harm than good. Plus, you can also use the built in tools in the Windows settings app to do some cleanup.

But if you want to find temporary and junk files that Windows cannot by default, you will need a third party program such as Wise Care 365. This is a free program you can use to free up disk space and optimize your computer so it will perform better. They have a free version and a professional version with even more features.

After you download and install Wise Care 365, you can then open it to see all the available cleanup features that you can use to optimize your PC. It may be a little overwhelming at first but once you use the program, you will see that it’s fairly easy to use.

The app is broken down into various tabs with the first one being the PC checkup option. This is sort of like an all in one place to perform many of the cleanup tasks that you will find in the other tabs combined. You can run a scan and see what it found before having the items “fixed”. It will also show you how many items it found and how much space you can expect to get back on your hard drive.

The System Cleaner tab has several tools including a registry cleaner and an advanced cleaner. Always be careful when doing any type of registry cleaning and this might be a good one to skip unless you think you need to do it for some reason. Also be careful when using the System Slimming tool and have it make a system restore point before proceeding. As you can see, there is also a big files manager option but that is only available with the professional version.

Next, we have the System Tuneup tab which also contains several optimization tools. If you plan on using the System Optimizer tool, make sure you know what you are doing when checking the boxes for each item.

There is a disk defragmenter tool, but Windows does a good job at keeping your hard drives optimized and you generally do not want to defrag SSD drives.

The Startup Manager tool can come in handy because it will show you what apps and services are set to start with your computer, and you can disable anything you do not want to run when your computer boots up. Just be careful not to disable anything that is needed otherwise you can run into issues.

The Privacy Protector tab has some interesting tools such as the Disk Eraser that can wipe the free space on your drive to make sure that deleted files are not recoverable. The File Shredder can be used to permanently delete files that are currently on your computer.

The System Monitor tab is more of an informational section rather than something that will cleanup your computer. Here you can use the Process Monitor to view running processes on your computer. You can also use the Operating System tool to see details about your Windows installation and the Hardware Overview section to see details about the hardware installed in your computer.

Using Wise Care 365 to Clean & Optimize your PC

As previously mentioned, You can use the PC Checkup section to run a general cleanup of your computer, but you may want to use the individual tools instead so you can have more control over what is being deleted or changed.

For example, if you were to run the Common Cleaner from the System Cleaner tab, you would be able to see what exactly will be removed and deselect any items that you do not want deleted.
