Even though Windows 10 has been out for several years, many Windows 11 users are still not happy with the lack of customization you can do in Windows 11 in regard to the taskbar and start menu. Many people end up having to do things such as perform registry edits or install third party Windows customization\tweaking applications to get these settings and features back.
One feature that many people miss is the ability to have multiple rows on the Windows taskbar, so they have quick access to all their open apps. It also makes things easier to find because they are not as compressed as when you only have one row. Sure, Windows 11 has the taskbar overflow feature but that is not quite the same. In this article, we will be showing you how to add multiple rows to the Windows 11 taskbar.
In order to restore the multiple rows taskbar feature in Windows 11, we will be using a free application called Windhawk. This application works by adding what are called “mods” that are designed to add features to Windows or enhance how existing features work. You can download Windhawk from their website and then install it on your computer.
1. Search for the Taskbar Mods
You must install two different mods in Windhawk and configure them to work together. Open the application and navigate directly to the Explore tab to begin your search. Type the exact names Multirow taskbar for Windows 11 and Taskbar height and icon size into the search box.

2. Download the Selected Mods
Once you find each individual mod in the search results, click on the Details button. You will then need to click on the Install button to begin the download process. A secondary prompt will immediately appear on your screen.

3. Accept the Installation Risk
You must then click on the Accept Risk and Install button to officially have the mod added to your Windhawk application. Both installed mods will now show up under the Home section of Windhawk. This main dashboard lets you change their settings, disable them entirely, or even remove them later.

Configuring Your Multi-Row Settings
1. Adjust Windows Alignment Options
You should change your Taskbar alignment setting from Center to Left to get the best visual results from these mods. Open your Windows personalization settings to make this specific change. You also want to change the Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels option to Never so the apps take up enough horizontal space.

2. Check for Visual Glitches
The default mod settings do not work very well right out of the box. You will definitely see overlapping icons and messy rows. The default setting for the Multirow taskbar for Windows 11 mod is exactly 2 rows. Increasing this number means you must manually adjust the height settings all over again.

3. Tweak the Taskbar Height Variable
The main variable you need to fix is the Taskbar height setting within Windhawk itself. The default value sits at exactly 52 pixels. You can change this raw number to whatever value makes your desktop look right. Click the Save settings button every single time you change a value to see the live update.

4. Review the Final Adjustments
We changed the Taskbar height setting to exactly 75 pixels for our specific monitor. You can easily see that things fit much better on the separate rows now. The icons no longer overlap and the text labels read perfectly.

5. Test the Combine Buttons Feature
You can play with the Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels option to see how it affects your final layout. You might realize there are simply not enough open programs to take up two entire rows. This leaves extra blank space on your taskbar so it is entirely up to you whether or not you want to use this setting.

Although this is not a perfect solution to adding multiple rows to the Windows 11 taskbar, its better than not having the option at all!
