Managing your files and folders is one of the most important skills you can learn when it comes to keeping yourself organized. It doesn’t matter if you are using Microsoft Windows or some other operating system such as Linux or macOS, it’s an essential part of being a proficient computer user.

Copying and moving files and folders is something many of us do on a regular basis and sometimes you will have the need to copy or move files into more than one folder. This can be a little tedious when using the Windows File Explorer app and can also result in moving files where you do not want them to be moved to. In this article, we will be showing you how to copy or move files & folders into multiple folders at once as needed.

To accomplish this, we will be using a free tool called Copy Files into Multiple Folders. There is also a licensed version that you can use for $19 that comes with updates, no nag screen and can be used in corporate environments. The app can be downloaded from their website and there is an installable version as well as a standalone version that doesn’t require anything to be installed on your computer.

Once you run the program, you will see that there is a window at the top for the source files and folders and then one at the bottom for the destination folder. For our example, we will be copying files and folders from the Documents folder into five other folders on the desktop.

At the bottom where the destination folders are listed, you have options to overwrite existing files, overwrite read-only files and overwrite files only if they are newer.

If you go to the Settings menu, you can choose one of the three different modes. The default setting is to copy the files from the source to the destination folders. You can also have the app move the source files to the destination folders which will delete them from the source folders. Finally, you can mirror the files so they are the same in both locations but anything you have in the destination folder will be deleted during this process.

To get around this, you would need to change one of the options such as checking the box for overwrite existing files. You could also change the mode to move or mirror instead of copy.

If you need to copy or move your files and folders on a recurring basis, you can use the scheduling option to do so. If you did not open the program as an administrator, you will be prompted to do so to use this feature.

Once you enable the scheduled task, you can then choose an interval for how often the copy job will occur (in seconds).
