When it comes to our electronic devices, we tend to get notified on a regular basis about things we either care or don’t care about. If you are a Microsoft Windows user, then you are most likely used to seeing those desktop notifications pop up at the lower right corner of your screen above the system tray and may think there is nothing you can do about it.
You can actually control what types of notification you receive and also disable them if needed. But if you like seeing the notification but would like to customize how they look and where they appear, there are a couple of easy ways to do so. In this article, we will be showing you how to change where Windows desktop notifications appear on the screen.
To accomplish the task of changing where your Windows desktop notifications appear, we will be using two different free programs to do so. You can check them both out and see which one works the best for you.
Change Windows Desktop Notifications Using TopNotify

TopNotify can be downloaded via the Microsoft Store that you should have configured on your computer. Once you download and install the app, it will be running in your system tray at the lower right corner of the taskbar. You can click on the icon to bring up the main interface.
TopNotify is a simple program but has some nice features. You can choose which monitor to have Windows notifications appear on as well as what part of the screen they appear on. You can choose from upper left, lower left, upper right, lower right and centered on the screen. To set the location, simply click on the indicator withing the apps interface.
The enable click-through option is used to allow you to click on icons that are covered by the notification which would normally be blocked until the notification went away.
Notification transparency is used to make your notification see through. The images below show a normal notification popup and one that has been made transparent.
You can also have TopNotify read your notifications to you as they appear or add your own custom sounds for them.
Change Windows Desktop Notifications Using Windhawk
The next app we will be using to configure our desktop notifications is called Windhawk. This app works by installing mods into the app itself that are used to customize and tweak how Windows operates.
Once you install the free Windhawk app which can be downloaded here, you can go to the Explore section and do a search for Customize Windows notifications placement and click on the Details button.
Then you will need to click on the Install button.
You will then see a warning telling you to proceed with care. You will get this warning for any mod that you add to your Windhawk installation. You can click the Accept Risk and Install button to continue and have the mod added to Windhawk.
Now you can go to the Settings section for the mod and choose how you want your notification pop ups to appear on your screen. You can also choose which monitor which will be used to display notifications.
You have the same choices as you do with TopNotify but you can also customize the distance from the right, left, top and bottom of the screen in pixels.
Every time you make a change to this mod, you will need to click on the Save settings button to have it applied. If you want to disable this feature, you can simply come back to Windhawk and click on the Disable button or you can remove the mod itself by clicking the Remove button.
In order for the Windhawk mods to stay active and working, Windhawk will need to be running in the system tray. It should configure itself to start automatically with Windows. If your mods stop working, you can simply restart the Windhawk program.
