Searching for files and folders in Windows can be a tedious task because File Explorer tends to be on the slow side when it comes to searching for files. This is especially true when searching within folders that contain a lot of files and subfolders. Listary File Search is a free desktop file and folder search app that is simple yet fast and effective. Once you download and install the app, it will be running in your system tray for easy access. You can perform searches using the main search window or by pressing Ctrl twice to open the launcher which is a desktop search box.

While in the main search app, you can start typing the name of a file or folder and Listary will start showing results as you type. You can then filter your results by files or folders as well as specific file types such as documents, pictures, videos and audio. There is also an option to have it show or not show rarely used files. You can even filter the search results based on when the files or folders were modified last.

Once you have your search results shown in the app, you can click the details button at the lower right corner to show a preview of the file. The details pane will also show you the file or folder location as well as its size and created and modified date.

When you right click on a file or folder, you will have the same options as you do in File Explorer but will also have some additional options specific to the Listary file search app.

To open the desktop search box, you can either press the Ctrl key twice or click the icon to the left of the minimize option in the main app. You can also click the arrow icon while in the standalone search box to open your results in the main application.

Once you start typing your search term in the search box, the app will show you the results instantly. Then you can click on anything in the results to open that file or folder.

Listary File Search has a variety of settings that you can configure to fine tune how the software works. One great feature is the ability to do other types of searches such as a Google, Gmail, YouTube or eBay search.

To use this feature, simply type in the letter or word from the keyword list and then your search term. For example, you can type in the letter g and then the word computers to do a Google search for computers. Then you can click on any of the search results to go to that webpage.
