Convert a Bin File to an ISO File with Magic ISO

Last Updated on April 10, 2026

Software comes in a variety of formats such as on a CD or DVD or as executable file (.exe) that you download off the Internet. While most software today is downloaded as a direct installer, ISO and BIN files remain the standard for archiving legacy software discs, retro games, and specialized bootable toolkits. An ISO is a sector-by-sector image of a disc saved in the ISO-9660 format, making it easy to store or share an entire disc as a single file..

A Bin file is a binary image of a CD or other collection of files all put together into one file. It’s similar to an ISO file but a little more generic. A Bin file will also require a Cue file to go with it in order to make use of the Bin file. The Bin file holds the data while the Cue file holds information about the layout of the Bin file that is needed for burning the Bin file to a CD or DVD.

You may want to convert your Bin file to an ISO since ISO files are more user friendly and supported by more CD/DVD burning software than Bin files are. Plus if you want to boot from your file or use it with something like VMware, Xen, Hyper-V or Virtual PC to boot an operating system from then an ISO is the way to go. Or if you just want to see the contents of your file then you can use a program such as WinRAR to open or extract the files from the ISO file to your hard drive rather than burning them to disk.

One way to convert a Bin file to an ISO file is by using a program called Magic ISO. Magic ISO has a built in file converter that will let you convert certain types of image files to other types of image files such as ISO, Bin and NRG. All you need to do for this conversion is go to the Tools menu and click on Convert. From there you will browse to your source Bin file, choose the output format (such as ISO) and finally choose output file or destination location and click the Convert button.

Running Magic ISO on Windows 11

Because Magic ISO v5.5 was designed for older versions of Windows, it may run into permissions errors on modern systems. To ensure the conversion works correctly:

  1. Right-click the Magic ISO desktop icon and choose Properties.
  2. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7.
  4. Check Run this program as an administrator and click OK.

Then you can open the app and create your ISO image. Once the conversion is finished, you will have a standard ISO image ready for use. In Windows 10 and Windows 11, you no longer need third-party apps like WinRAR to see what is inside. You can simply right-click the ISO file and select Mount to access the files as if you had inserted a physical disc into your computer.

The trial version of Magic ISO is still available for download, but keep in mind that it has a strict 300MB file size limit. If your BIN file is larger than that, you will need to purchase a license or look toward a more modern alternative to complete the task.

Modern Alternatives for Larger Files

If your file exceeds the 300MB limit of the Magic ISO trial, or if you need a tool that is more current, these applications are excellent alternatives:

  • AnyBurn: A free, lightweight tool that handles BIN to ISO conversions for any file size.
  • WinBin2Iso: A tiny, portable utility specifically designed to convert BIN files to ISO quickly.
  • ImgBurn: A highly customizable tool for advanced users who need to manage complex disc images.
